The
Southwest Regional Fly-In begins in its new location,
Abilene Regional Airport. With more room, use of TSTC's
buildings for forums, covered space in Hangar 1 for
vendors and the "Country Store", ample room for tents
and aircraft display as well as parking for all types of
aircraft, SWRFI looks forward to many years of enjoying
the hospitality and support of Abilene.
A weather
system which covered Texas, and many other states as
well, cut attendance, but the persons who braved the
weather approved of the new site. Almost 100 aircraft
arrived at the Fly-In, including EAA's B17.
An airshow
was held, a wonderful banquet was enjoyed, and
Tony Bingelis
received the President's Award. Tony's airplanes
were front and center as attendees paid
tribute to the
founder of the Southwest Regional Fly-In.
Sunday
morning saw the Parade of Champions before the Fly-In
closed its first event in Abilene. Planning began
immediately for 1999. |
