Hondo, Texas
24 March 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Another Openin' of Another Show - Info
Meeting for SWRFI Volunteers
EAA member volunteers make The Texas Fly-In go.
Just as they do at AirVenture Oshkosh and at all
EAA Regional Fly-Ins.
EAA member volunteers will meet with team
leaders, volunteer coordinators and officers of
the EAA Southwest Regional Fly-In - all of whom
are themselves volunteers - at 10:30 a.m. on
Saturday, April 22nd at Hondo Municipal Airport.
All EAA members are invited; reports,
discussions of plans and general participation
will focus upon final preparations for The EAA
Texas Fly-In, which will take place less than
three weeks later, on May 11th through 14th.
Volunteers are needed to drive new Kubota
tractors on the flight line during the Fly-In.
To avoid driver fatigue, shifts will be
scheduled by 3-hour periods, so many drivers are
needed.
Other volunteers are needed to shuttle folks
around Hondo in new vans. These shifts also will
be scheduled by 3-hour periods. With two vans,
SWRFI will need a substantial number of
volunteer drivers.
Volunteers are needed in shifts to man the SWRFI
Information booth, the Pilot Registration booth,
and be Gate monitors. Other volunteers will pull
short shifts in the food service hangar before
and after meals during the Fly-In.
In addition to volunteers in all these roles,
The Texas Fly-In needs them at a full workday in
Hondo on Saturday, May 6th beginning at 9 a.m.,
for final preparations, including the famous
Hondo FOD Hunt which performs a meticulous
inspection of the entire HDO ramp to find and
remove Foreign Object Debris.
This year, some lucky FOD Hunt volunteer will
find a FOD Treasure object on the ramp which can
be exchanged for a free ticket to the Banquet on
Saturday night, May 13th, at which civilian
astronaut Mike Melvill will speak.
Volunteers can also turn out for final setup
work beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10th,
as well as for the teardown and storage of
materials on Sunday, May 14th beginning early in
the morning and ending with a free lunch for the
volunteers at 12 Noon.
A free lunch will also be provided for
volunteers on Wednesday and
Thursday, May 10th and 11th.
Volunteers must provide their name, phone number
and e-mail address so that a master list of
volunteers can be compiled. This list will be at
the main entry gate and all persons on it will
be directed to the volunteer tent where they
will receive their SWRFI Volunteer wristband.
Everyone attending The Texas Fly-In will be
asked to pay the $3 parking fee, but volunteers
will be allowed to park very close to the main
entry gate. Volunteers must tell the Police
Explorer Scouts who collect the parking fee that
they are volunteers and want to be directed to
volunteer parking.
It's okay if EAA members just show up and offer
to do whatever, but the fun volunteer jobs go to
those who sign up in advance. To reserve your
volunteer assignment, call SWRFI at 830-889-8802
or e-mail
eyoes@stic.net as soon as possible.
Further information about how to volunteer, as
well as the facts on flight approach control,
lodging, camping, advance reservations,
admission, schedule of events and pictures of
award-winning airplanes visit the official Texas
Fly-In web site at www.swrfi.org.
Sign up now. Not every boy is lucky enough to be
allowed to paint
Tom Sawyer's fence...
